Ingredients

Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold water as needed
Filling
  • 3 cups apples peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add cold water, mixing until the dough comes together. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Make the Filling
  1. In a separate bowl, mix diced apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, lemon juice, and cornstarch until well combined.
Assemble the Kringle
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface into a rectangle.
  2. Spread the apple filling down the center of the dough, leaving space on the edges. Fold the edges over the filling and pinch to seal.
  3. Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Glaze the Kringle
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over the warm kringle.
