Ingredients

Turkey Burger Patties
  • 1 pound ground turkey preferably 93% lean
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Caramelized Onions
  • 2 medium yellow onions sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar optional
Aioli
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Burgers
  • 4 whole burger buns toasted
  • 4 slices cheese optional, like Swiss or cheddar
  • 1 cup lettuce for topping
  • 1 tomato sliced for topping

Method

Prepare the Aioli
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, and salt. Mix well and set aside.
Caramelize the Onions
  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes until they are golden brown and caramelized. Add balsamic vinegar if desired and stir. Remove from heat.
Prepare the Turkey Patties
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined. Form into 4 patties.
Cook the Burgers
  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Cook the turkey patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). If using cheese, add it on top of the patties during the last minute of cooking to melt.
Assemble the Burgers
  1. Spread aioli on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place a turkey patty on each bun, top with caramelized onions, lettuce, and tomato. Cover with the top half of the bun and serve.
