Method

  1. Put 1 Tbs of olive oil into a large pot and turn the stove top up to medium heat. Add the diced apples, sliced sweet potatoes, and sliced carrots to the pan along with onion powder, garlic powder, 1 tsp of salt, 1/2 tsp pepper, 1 tsp of rubbed sage, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, and a sprinkle nutmeg. Mix with a spatula and cook for approximately 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add the ground turkey meat to your pot once the vegetables have softened slightly, cooking it for about 5 minutes until it starts to brown evenly throughout.
  3. Mix in the tomato paste along with 2 tsp chili powder, 1/2 tsp sage, and an additional 1 tsp salt into your mixture until everything is well combined, ensuring the tomato paste is evenly distributed.
  4. Next, add both crushed tomatoes and strained tomatoes into the pot while mixing thoroughly to combine all ingredients seamlessly.
  5. Reduce heat to low-medium and allow your chili to cook uncovered for about 20-30 minutes so that all flavors meld together beautifully; if using kidney beans, add them at this point.
